One of the many things that made Bernadette and Matt Latimer decide to open their hearts and home to siblings was that they didn't want anyone to be pulled apart. They didn't want them going to different homes where they'd grow up not knowing their family.
These champions are proud to give 4 siblings, Zander, Eve, Isaac and Zavier a permanent place to call home. Be inspired by their story and the real difference they are making to their lives.
Support our "Don’t let domestic violence destroy kids’ lives" campaign
Children are the hidden victims of domestic violence and their trauma has been overlooked for far too long. Barnardos' research shows that the damage caused by violence in childhood can last a lifetime in the form of mental, emotional and educational issues.
Children need tailored services to heal. Families need early intervention to prevent the violence. Learn more about what you can do to take action and help us raise awareness on the serious impact that domestic violence has on children.
Kay is the program manager of our Barnardos Temporary Family Care team. She grew up in a family that fostered and adopted children, as she says "social work runs through my blood and is a real part of my identity".
"I’m so fortunate to work with an amazing team of people, from children, parents, carers, and colleagues. What brings me joy is when we get to be part of a child’s success."
'Children have the right to relax, play and take part in activities they enjoy.'
Above is this years theme of International Children's Week.
As part of our journey towards reconciliation, we are keeping children connected to culture through art, music and storytelling in each of our Learning Centres.
