Building confidence: Christian's story of transformation!
Feeling anxious and lost in the crowd, Christian* was struggling to engage at school. He found it hard to concentrate, would sit alone at lunch and often refused to go to class.
He was referred to our mentoring program last year where he was matched with a kind mentor to help with schoolwork and provide Christian with emotional support.
Fast forward 10 months and Christian is flourishing! His mentor visits each week for 1 ½ hours and they go through any specific homework he may have. Christian now says he “feels a little more comfortable at school reading in class.”
When families have access to safe and stable housing children can begin to thrive
Homelessness in Australia is a growing epidemic, but together we can get to the root of the problem by providing those most vulnerable with equal chances.
Barnardos Australia is calling on all levels of government to appropriately fund housing options and social support services, to ensure no child falls through the cracks.
Cherie joined our regular giving family in 2014. Being a Barnardos Buddy allowed her to support children in a practical way.
"Children’s care and safety have always been close to my heart. I have three children of my own, work in the childcare industry and receive regular reports of the amazing work Barnardos do in our local community. I want to help as many children as I can and Barnardos allows me ongoing partnership in doing that."
We are truly thankful for all our Barnardos Buddies - it is because of you that we can deliver life-changing services and support!
Become a Barnardos Buddy today and be a champion for children every day of the year!
At Barnardos, the vital work we do with children, young people and their families is only made possible thanks to the generous donations we receive from our supporters. If you feel inspired by these stories, you can become a Barnardos Buddy by making a recurring gift. Your ongoing gift will provide crucial ongoing care and support to vulnerable children.
