With Christmas only weeks away, we want to say a heartfelt thank you. Your support in 2025 has meant the world to the children and families we work with, helping them feel safe, supported and hopeful for the future. You’ve helped spark brighter futures — and we couldn’t have done it without you.
From all of us at Barnardos, we wish you a joyful festive season and a bright, happy New Year!
New Barnardos CEO!
We’ve announced the appointment of Dr Kate Alexander as the new CEO of Barnardos Australia, succeeding Deirdre Cheers, who has dedicated the past 10 years to leading the organisation with passion and commitment.
With extensive experience in the child protection sector, we’re delighted to have Dr Alexander on board, as we continue our mission to find the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
We are thrilled to announce the release of our Barnardos Annual Review 2024-2025
For over 100 years, we’ve listened, acted and advocated for children’s safety. This year, we chose to be Fearlessly Optimistic, and this Annual Review reflects that mission—sharing stories from our partners, supporters, team members, and most importantly, the children and families we stand alongside every day.
With rising demands our work has never been more necessary. But together, we can create a brighter future for all children 💚
Mischelle shares her experience of fostering older children
Exploring and going on adventures is one of Mischelle’s favourite things to do with the children she fosters.
Her children welcome the foster children as part of the family, creating a strong network of support around each child. With steady guidance and care, Mischelle helps them grow from scared and uncertain beginnings into confident, positive young people.
The Unbound Art Show returns for its third year in February 2026—and we’re growing to make an even bigger impact!
What began as a single night of spectacular art from established and emerging artists, has grown into a two-week celebration of creativity and community.
📆 Opening Night, Thursday 12th February 2026, at The Garden Gallery, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney (Mrs Macquaries Road).
During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we joined the NSW Vigil Collective’s No More Empty Shoes vigil in Martin Place, standing alongside 30 organisations in solidarity.
The powerful installation of empty shoes honoured every woman and child killed by domestic and family violence in Australia in 2025. We also led a social media campaign to educate the community about the impact of domestic and family violence on children and how, together, we can help prevent it.
Become a Barnardos Buddy today and be a champion for children every day of the year!
At Barnardos, the vital work we do with children, young people and their families is only made possible thanks to the generous donations we receive from our supporters. If you feel inspired by these stories, you can become a Barnardos Buddy by making a recurring gift. With your ongoing gift, children in need can receive the care and support to help them thrive.
